Are you dead or are you alive?
I have resisted all these weeks, no point in checking when there is nothing I can do. But today I finally logged on to gardenweb, and of course, everyone is playing dead or dormant. So many of the plants they mention are the ones I have and wonder about; nobody at home is familiar with my plants, even with the labels I put up, I know they will not be able to tell me anything.
Most worrisome for my gardenweb buddies:
Persicaria 'Red Dragon' - I know this one was already coming up when I left - it is supposed to be late; but the only trouble I have with mine is a lot of seedlings.
Persicaria 'Lance Corporal' - wasn't up but even if the mother does not wake up, there will be hundreds of seedlings, I know I even had some growing in the crevices of the driveway.
Platycodon- no worry here, I know the rabbits dined on it
Hostas - Who knows what will be up? They are hardy enough to survive all the cold but if the voles chewed up their roots, then there is no hope. We shall see.
Eupatorium 'Chocolate' - always late and I need to split and transplant it this year. It is too large for the front of the border but I had it there so the lawn sprinklers could water it; not that we ran the sprinklers last year or the year before.
Hibiscus - I was trying to kill it actually - pretty flowers and it is my seed baby but all insects love it and the leaves are always holey;
Russian Sage - Bad year for it last year; too much rain rotted away most of the plants; I hope at least one lives, I can take cuttings and start new ones, if not, I know I will buy a new one, too pretty not to have.
Begonia Grandis - Hope, hope , hope - I absolutely adore this plant and it gives me many new babies. It is one of those plants that are hard to find in the nursery, too old fashioned I think, so please come back.
Heucheras - most of these did not look too happy when I left - and I do have a lot, a lot of these, many varieties, so I hope they are happy and up now. I cannot live without my Heucheras - I know I will be buying many more this year - 'Marmalade', 'Obsidian', 'Perisan Carpet' and 'Cathedral Windows' are on my list already but I will take whatever the nurseries have.
Creopsis 'Moonbeam' and Gaura - hope - I am keeping my fngers crossed. Planted late fall, and I am afraid in the wrong spot, too wet for them.
Geranium 'Rozanne' - killed one soon after planting , hoping for the second one to survive
Geranium 'Johnson's Blue' - should have come up by the time I left but there was no sign so am a little worried.
All my Salvias - hope and pray -
